WAAC’s Rec Swim Teams
Ages 5-18
Recreational Swim Teams are perfect for young swimmers and teens to
learn and improve their swim strokes and races. The teams offer an
introduction to the sport of swimming while providing a way for swimmers
to improve and become more confident. Optional competitions are
provided in each season to help swimmers learn about the sport. These
teams attract a variety of skill levels, from swimmers being on team for
the first time to veterans who enjoy swimming for fitness, PE credit, or
have limited time in busy schedules. We are gearing up for our best
seasons yet in 2011-2012 and hope you’ll join us!
Description of Rec Swim Team Seasons:
West Austin Flyers is the Recreational/Developmental swim team at West
Austin Athletic Club. The year is divided into 5 REC Sessions:
(1) Fall Team (Sept.-Thanksgiving)
(2) Winter Team (Dec. – Feb.)
(3) Spring Team (Mar. - Start of Summer
Swim Team)
(4) Summer Swim Team
(5) Late Summer Team .
During mid May through mid July, swimmers
participate in meets governed by the Lake Travis Swim League. The
League emphasizes individual improvement and gives ribbons at all meets
for swimmers achieving best times. All swimmers receive an award for
each meet they attend. During each season, the team will have
competitions with other area developmental teams and intrasquad meets.
The team works on strokes and speed in practice and will have several
fun activities. This team is perfect for swimmers new to competitive
swimming and experienced swimmers who want to have fun while improving
their swims.
While talking to college and high school swimmers, we learned that they
almost all received their swim start on a rec swim team. When
reflecting back over their swim experiences, most will relay how getting
those first ribbons, being on those first relays, and hanging out with
their friends is what inspired them to keep swimming.
