Most Beautiful Stroke Meet Oct. 9 10:30 am at WAAC Most Beautiful Stroke Meet is a great way to emphasize to kids that “correctness” and technique is important! The focus of the meet is "legal strokes", so swimmers will not be timed at this meet. The focus is on the strokes being done correctly and precisely, not quickly. For example, 8 & younger swimmers can experience what is important in breaststroke and butterfly. Older kids can experience, and get help regarding correct and efficient transitions, dives, turns and the underwater pull out related to breast stroke. Please sign-up on-line so we can be organized before the start of the meet. http://fs12.formsite.com/logicgroup/form665696853/index.html Format of the meet is as follows: Cards will go straight to Stroke Judge from the ready bench. The swimmer swims his event. Those that do the stroke correctly get a star on their card from the stroke judge. Then, the card goes to swimmer.
Those that do not get a star carry their cards over to the Island Pool to
work on their DQ, as the card has information provided by stroke judge).
Their stroke is corrected with coaches; then, they get to try again. Once someone has four stars they get to pick a prize out of the box and go home. After freestyle, four lanes in 25-yard pool are the next stroke and the other side is “do overs”. It is OK to do over several times. The goal is to have every swimmer experience the proper technique. At the end, the coaches are always in the 25-yard pool helping the last ones swim a successful 10 feet. This meet is to help young swimmers understand that correctness of stroke is the basis of swimming. It is also teaches confidence and challenges them to try until the stroke is right. Older or more advanced swimmers will have the option of being challenged with: a) Legal Strokes b) Proper turns c) Under water pull-outs on breast stroke d) Dives
e) Swim for times if you have not been timed at end of meet. We will have a box of prizes for the kids to have at the end since kids will end at different times. Kids will each get a card with their name and events on the card. Parent Help Needed:
Two Starters (can also double as a stroke judge) Thanks, Coach Kim
This fall, join Coach Kim and Coach John for improved swim strokes, sprint training, strength building, and FUN!! WAAC’s fall swim team is a great way for swimmers, age 4-high school, to become better swimmers. The program emphasizes personal improvement, stresses proper stroke technique, and provides fun activities that help young swimmers build a love for the sport. Coaches are often in the water helping swimmers and provide individual instruction. WAAC’s coaches are enthusiastic, stressing the positive aspects of the sport. Swimmers work on improving the four competitive strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly), starts, turns, and speed. WAAC coaches also build strength in the water through a variety of games such as sharks and minnows, water polo, and over-under. Optional swim meets are designed to introduce young swimmers to competitions in a fun and encouraging environment. The team also will have several social activities. Middle school and high school participants looking for school PE credit should join the Senior Swim Group. Participants must be comfortable swimming across a 25 yard pool, with their face in the water and be able to move on their back. This team emphasizes personal improvement and provides fun activities to help young and teenage swimmers learn to love the sport. For more information, contact Becky at 263-4282 or becky@wfly.com or go to the website at www.wfly.com. Coach John can be contacted at coachjohn@wfly.com or 656-8195.
