Water
Survival Camp skills help swimmers build strength and confidence in the
water while learning about water safety. This camp sets challenge
goals for participants based on their age and skill level at the beginning
of camp. Campers are taught different float techniques, how to
successfully thread water, how to make flotation devices from clothing, and
how to deal with currents. The class also teaches campers how to use
their swimming skills to conserve energy in a situation where they need to
stay afloat. Water safety rules are also taught such as how to enter
the water, what to be aware of, and how to help other swimmers. These skills
are useful to anyone who spends time in area lakes, rivers, and creeks.
Campers have free time at the end of each day enjoying WAAC's pools.

General Information
about Water Survival Camp
Campers will be dropped off at the gray house. It is the
second drive past WAAC's parking lot. It is gravel so if you don't
want to drive down it, park in the spaces to the left of WAAC's driveway and take the foot path to the gray house. Campers should come dressed in bathing suit
and t-shirt with easy to get off shoes. Campers should also bring
old athletic shoes and socks that can get wet. They will need a towel and goggles, if they wear them. They should come with
sun screen applied and bring sunscreen which we reapply at snack time.
We encourage the wearing of UV protection swim shirts. Also, please
use a sun screen made to use around water. We have a water fountain, but
campers may wish to bring a water bottle. Other things they may want
to bring are caps, sun glasses, and money to buy a snack card. We
serve a snack every day for example oranges and graham crackers. Campers are
also welcome to bring a snack from home.
Snack cards are sold for $5 and campers may purchase snacks at the Camp
Snack Bar. WAAC Camps meet
regardless of weather. During thunder when pools are closed, the campers will move under tents
for rainy day activities.
